Fall 2025 Courses

Biblical Studies

Our Biblical Studies programs are designed to prepare students for in-depth studies of Sacred Scripture rooted in an ever-revealing hermeneutic that both informs and is informed by the Catholic Church.  Certificate track students enroll in courses individually with no application necessary. Students who wish to pursue the Master of Arts (MA) track program can apply below. Each track is tailored to suit different academic and professional goals.

Certificate Track

The Certificate track offers specialized courses that provide valuable skills and knowledge for the lifelong learner. Each course meets once weekly and is 1.5 credit hours. This streamlined option is perfect for those seeking to enhance their expertise or credentials without committing to a full degree program.

Geared Toward:

  • Professionals seeking to deepen their knowledge in Catholic biblical studies without pursuing a full MA degree.

  • Students aiming for a more focused, practical course of study with a smaller time commitment.

  • Gap year students looking for a meaningful academic experience and a structured program to gain specialized knowledge.

  • Individuals looking to expand their qualifications or credentials in this subject area.

No prior background in Biblical Studies is necessary for enrollment in courses, nor is an application needed. Registrants pay only the course fees; there is no additional tuition. Students who complete 18 total credit hours, including 9 credit hours in Sacred Scripture (SCR), 3 credit hours in Ancient World & Cultures (ANC), and 6 credit hours in Methods of Biblical Interpretation (MBI) will earn the Biblical Studies Certificate.

MA Track

The MA track in Catholic Biblical Studies offers a specialized, comprehensive study of Sacred Scripture, while teaching students the tools necessary for such study. This track is ideal for students who seek to deepen their understanding of the Bible through a Catholic lens, with a focus on historical, theological, and exegetical methods. As part of this track, students are required to learn one ancient and one modern research language. Language skills are essential for engaging with biblical texts in their original languages, providing the foundation for rigorous academic research and theological reflection. Courses for this track meet twice weekly and are 3 credit hours. Jerome Institute is actively pursuing degree granting status at this time.

Geared Toward:

  • Students looking to pursue a career in biblical studies, theology, or ministry, particularly in the Catholic tradition.

  • Those intending to engage deeply with Sacred Scripture and its interpretation within the Catholic Church.

  • Individuals preparing for advanced research, teaching, or pastoral roles that require a deep knowledge of the Bible and its original languages.

Graduate Studies at Jerome Institute forms faithful Catholic educators, preparing them to revitalize the sphere of biblical education, through training in biblical history, research, and interpretation. The courses are designed for qualified individuals who are interested in delving deeply into the study of Sacred Scripture. In most cases, applicants will have completed a BA in a related field, such as Religious Studies, Philosophy, Theology, History, Literature, or Classics.

Course of study includes 36 total credit hours consisting of 18 credits in Sacred Scripture (SCR), 6 credits in Ancient World & Cultures (ANC), and 12 credits in Methods of Biblical Interpretation (MBI). In addition, students who have not met the language requirement of one ancient and one modern research language upon entering the program, should complete that language study as well. This can be done during semesters or intensively during the summer session.

In addition to the course enrollment fees, MA track students pay a semester tuition equal to $500 per enrolled course. Monthly payment plans may be arranged upon applying.
