Four-Day Schedule

First and Second Class offerings are geared toward students estimated to be in the first or second grade level. Students meet together in one classroom and work primarily in small groups arranged by individual literacy levels. Small group instruction  allows students to receive the individual support they need to work at the level and pace that's right for them, with great emphasis on personal growth.

Science: Creation & Creature is a Science course that explores creation and creatures, the world of plants and animals, their habitats, basic needs, classifications and life cycles. The skills of observation, questioning/curiosity, and articulating what we observe are developed.

Religion: Heroic Faith & Behavior is a Religion and Bible History course that introduces students to the heroes from the Old and New Testaments through retelling and discussion of heroic faith and behavior. Students will apply what they learn from the study of these narratives to their daily lives through various activities. Great emphasis is placed on students understanding themselves as little characters who are formed by their own decisions and actions as they are educated in virtue.

Latin & English Grammar 1/2 presents beginning Latin vocabulary and grammar alongside beginning English vocabulary and grammar. Speech and diction are exercised through recitation of simple prayers and memory verses while the importance of good penmanship habits are emphasized in writing. It is highly recommended that students taking this course also enroll in the corresponding Literature 1/2 course.

Literature 1/2 lays the foundation of early literacy, focusing primarily on phonics, spelling, composition, and penmanship. It is highly recommended that students taking this course also enroll in the corresponding Latin & English Grammar 1/2 course.

Arithmetic 1/2 focuses on building skills in addition and subtraction, memorization of facts, developing understanding of place value, bar graphs, measuring, and shapes. A strong foundation in understanding numbers and operations is necessary for future study of the abstract sciences.

First and Second Class course offerings meet on-campus at the Saint Mary Magdalen Center at 511 Kearsarge Mountain Rd in Warner, New Hampshire. All courses have the option of a Monday/Wednesday or a Monday through Thursday schedule. New content is introduced during the Monday/Wednesday meetings. The expectation for students who choose the Monday/Wednesday option is that students work at home with the primary educator on Tuesday/Thursday for consistency and to complete weekly assignments. Students who enroll in the Monday through Thursday schedule use Tuesdays and Thursdays to work with guided instruction to complete their weekly assignments on campus. They receive individualized help and feedback as they work in small groups. The four-day option is great for the primary educator who would like to be relatively hands-off with the instruction of the subject.

Required Materials are estimated to be around $120 for full enrollment. The Books/Materials list is sent out to registered students in late June or early July.

Course Dates: Thirty-two instruction weeks beginning on August 25th - May 15th with breaks at Thanksgiving, Christmas, Winter Break, and Holy Week/Easter Week
