In this course students learn mimetic theory as a necessary springboard towards analyzing the Sacred Scriptures in a new orchard of biblical interpretation. Catholic Popes as well as rationalist German biblical scholars have called for a new anthropology to go beyond the regulating limits of enlightenment biblical exegesis, yet few have distinguished the treasure trove of René Girard’s theory as the key to unlocking a path forward in biblical studies. This course highlights mimetic theory as a framework for the future. (MBI: MA track, 3 credits; Certificate track, 1.5 credits)
