Fifth and Sixth Class

These course offerings are geared toward students estimated to be in the fifth or sixth grade level. Students meet together in one classroom and work primarily in small groups arranged by individual literacy levels. Small group instruction allows students to receive the individual support they need to work at the level and pace that's right for them, with great emphasis on personal growth.

Arithmetic 5/6 builds upon all previous math knowledge and moves into ratios, proportions, algebraic expressions and basic statistics.

Literature 5/6 introduces students to timeless works of literature which in turn develops strong composition skills across various genres while enforcing the use of varied sentence structure and creative methods of depiction. The logic of writing comes more fully into the foreground with the use of inference and argumentative stances supported with evidence. It is highly recommended that students taking this course also enroll in the corresponding Latin & English Grammar 5/6 course.

Latin & English Grammar 5/6 builds upon what is understood thus far of Latin and English grammar to present increasingly complex vocabulary, grammar, and forms. No prior Latin experience is necessary. Speech and diction are exercised through recitation of prayers and memory verses while the importance of good penmanship habits are emphasized. It is highly recommended that students taking this course also enroll in the corresponding Literature 5/6 course.

enhance their grammar, and vocabulary

Life Science: Life & Humanity is a Life Science course that presents the scientific method, organisms and their environments, cell structure and function, photosynthesis, and other living organisms. Students practice what they learn with hands-on experiments and continue to develop their ability to observe, question, and gather data, while discussing and writing about their findings.

Religion: God Forms His People is a Religion and Bible History course that traces the history of God forming His people, starting with Abraham, through the prophets and centralized temple worship, to Pentecost, the destruction of the Second Temple, and the kingdom of God on earth.

All Fifth and Sixth Class courses meet on-campus at the Saint Mary Magdalen Center at 511 Kearsarge Mountain Rd in Warner, New Hampshire. All courses have the option of a Monday/Wednesday or a Monday through Thursday schedule. New content is introduced during the Monday/Wednesday meetings. The expectation for students who choose the Monday/Wednesday option is that students work at home with the primary educator on Tuesday/Thursday for consistency and to complete weekly assignments. Students who enroll in the Monday through Thursday schedule use Tuesdays and Thursdays to work with guided instruction to complete their weekly assignments on campus. They receive individualized help and feedback as they work in small groups. The four-day option is great for the primary educator who would like to be relatively hands-off with the instruction of the subject.

Required Materials are estimated to be around $120 for full enrollment. The Books/Materials list is sent out to registered students in June.

Course Dates: Thirty-two instruction weeks beginning on August 25th - May 15th with breaks at Thanksgiving, Christmas, Winter Break, and Holy Week/Easter Week
